Schmitz Appointed at Mutual of Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. – Kari Schmitz has been appointed Assistant General Counsel at Mutual of Omaha. She provides legal counsel on technology, innovation, data security, outsourcing, and data governance, emphasizing operational excellence. Schmitz is responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating technology contracts, focusing on data security, AI, outsourcing, and data governance. She also assists with cybersecurity, third-party and privacy incident response efforts.
Before joining Mutual, Schmitz was Legal Counsel at Hudl. Before that, she held positions as an Operations Consultant at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and Executive Assistant at GTM Sportswear. Schmitz also gained experience at Kansas State University, working in admissions and as an instructor.
Schmitz earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kansas State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is actively involved in the community, serving on the boards of directors for Educare Lincoln and Lincoln Littles and as a sustainer for the Junior League of Lincoln.
